There were rumors in Taiwan political circles that a video showing Chu Mei-Feng having sex in her apartment was being shopped around to tabloids, magazines and VCD distributors in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Most rejected the opportunity to distribute the video, but eventually some took the bait. In its issue released Monday, December 17, 2001, Scoop Weekly ran a lengthy expose of Chu Mei-Feng’s promiscuous sex life. That issue of the magazine came packaged with the hidden camera sex video in VCD format. Copies of the 40-minute video also started showing up on the Internet and local street markets in the days before Scoop hit the newsstands.

Chu at first denied being the woman on the video, but weeks later admitted it was probably her. The man in the video was eventually identified as Tseng Chung-ming, a married businessman with whom Chu Mei-Feng had an affair. The video was shot with a pinhole surveillance camera hidden in Chu’s apartment.

In the aftermath of the VCD scandal, another Taiwanese tabloid, Next Weekly, acquired and excerpted Chu’s diary, in which she allegedly discussed being showered with money and gifts by “sugar daddies.”

The investigation quickly focused on Kuo Yu-ling, Chu’s former “spiritual growth instructor” from a religious-healing center called Avatar (referred to in some accounts as a “Buddhist sect”). Chu and Kuo were apparently close friends at one point but had fallen out months before the VCD release. Police retrieved a notebook in which Kuo kept coded notes about the surveillance. Several witnesses reported seeing Kuo purchasing video and audio surveillance devices and soliciting a detective agency to install the devices in Chu’s home, office and car. Kuo admitted having the pinhole cameras installed in Chu’s home, but initially insisted she did so at Chu’s request. Several VCD companies confirmed that Kuo contacted them and tried to sell them the sex footage from Chu’s bedroom.

Kuo eventually confessed to placing the assorted surveillance devices and creating the hidden camera videotapes. She then insisted that she had been acting on someone else’s orders, but wouldn’t reveal who else was involved. But police and journalists had a prime suspect: Tsai Jen-chien, former mayor of Hsinchu and Chu Mei-Feng’s ex-lover. Kuo admitted that Tsai accompanied her to the private detective agency where she purchased video surveillance equipment, and several witnesses saw them there together.

Photos of alleged Chinese government officials at what some are calling a wife swapping party swinger party have mysteriously been leaked online. The set of 120 photos were leaked on China’s most popular version of Twitter, known as Weibo, of an orgy involving the high ranking China Communist Party officials. The leak has triggered a massive political scandal… Scores of photos of the six-person orgy went viral on Weibo along with rumors that the participants are high-ranking Communist officials. Chinese censors were quick to block the photos the site and on many other Chinese based websites. This scandal could be more than a black eye for the officials involved because in China activities such as orgies, gangbang, group sex, wife swapping and sex parties are a criminal matter that can get one a prison sentence.

The pictures appear to show the Communist Party secretary of Lujiang county in Anhui Province, Wang Minsheng, his deputy, Jiang Dabin, and the party’s youth leader at Hefei University, Wang Yu. The high-ranking Chinese officials are shown engaging in a hotel “sex party,” according to the reports. The unknown person who posted the pictures claimed that two of the men in the obscene Lujiang photos were Wang Minsheng (王民生), party secretary of Lujiang County of Anhui Province, and Jiang Dabin (蒋大彬), vice mayor of Lujiang County, and one of the women was Diao Jirun (刁吉润), mayor of Lujiang. So far Chinese bloggers have reposted the 6P (six person) group sex photos in Weibo many times.

The set of 120 photos show three couples in various acts of sex in a hotel room. But the shot that having everyone talking about this controversy is of five of the members posing for a pre-sex or post-sex group picture, complete with one man cupping another one’s wife with a double-hand breast grope. Particularly intriguing is Wang Yu’s wife, a pretty middle school teacher who participated in the orgies. Wang Yu is the most junior among the male orgy participants, being Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Hefei University in Anhui.

This whole sex party scandal has unfolded while the wife of former Communist official Bo Xilai is being tried for murdering a British expat underscores rising public disgust with corruption in the party. Bo Xilai was one of China’s most powerful and charismatic politicians until he was ousted as Communist Party chief of Chongqing city as the scandal surrounding Heywood’s death last November. What better way is there to get back at your enemies than posting their sexcapades on the web? According to internal party reports, Bo Xilai mounted a widespread wiretapping operation to monitor the activities of his fellow politicians in an effort to boost his own position within the party.

Bo tapped the phones at the state guesthouse in Chongqing where senior officials stay on visits to the city. The eavesdropping emerged last August, after it was discovered that President Hu’s conversations with a visiting minister were being recorded. So Bo Xilai and his allies knew the intimate details of his fellow Communist Party officials. The set of photos initially surfaced last week with the mocking title “comrades in charge,” as two of the men were thought to be Wang Minsheing, head of the Communist Party in Lujiang county, in the eastern province of Anhui, and his second-in-command. The Bo Xilai scandal has badly shaken the country’s leadership. And many see this leak of nude pictures of official as Bo Xilai ad/or his allies striking back at the country’s leadership.

Sex parties and wife swapping are technically illegal in China, and participants can be prosecuted under an obscure “group licentiousness” statute added to the Chinese criminal code in 1997. And while most Chinese web browsers are actively looking for download links for the photos others are condemning the decayed morality of government officials. The scandal grew to the point that the State Council Information Office, China’s head web censor, was forced to issue an official directive that “all websites must stop following and hyping the so-called ‘Lujiang Indecent Photos Incident.'” Currently the phrases “naked photos” and “vulgar photos” are banned from Weibo.

But the government don’t want people to take the swift and total crackdown on these photos as an admission of guilt.Chinese Citizens, who think corruption in China is severe problem and prefer to believing Chinese officials live a life of luxury and debauchery, were obviously not convinced by the official account. The Communist party has vigorously denied that these are party members, even though they do share quite a resemblance, judging from pictures. At first they claimed the images were photoshopped. But then they backtracked and said the photos were real but the Party officials had been misidentified. Wang himself spoke up to clear his name, saying he was being “slandered,” possibly as payback over a corruption case he was investigating. The official line that emerged is that the photos were taken back in 2007 and feature random swingers.

However the photos are clearly real, as the third male participant, the man named Wang Yu, has confessed. Wang does have a Communist party connection: He’s the Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Hefei University in Anhui. He was tracked down by the famous Chinese internet hordes known as “human flesh search engines,” who band together to identify internet villains. Now he’s been fired along with his wife, a middle school teacher who was also in the photos. He has not say how he got involved with a wife swapping party. And Wang Yu has declined to identify the other participants in the orgy.

Dong-chul (played by Jo In-woo) is a sleazy guy who boasts to his friends about how he’s totally figured out the whole relationship conflict thing. See, Dong-chul has a wife and kids. But they live in the Philippines. So even though Dong-chul has already solved the life goal of getting married and having a family (since he knocked her up in college), Dong-chul is still free and clear to engage in whatever philandering he wants in Korea, where none of this could possibly reflect badly on him. And you know what that means- copious soft core sex scenes.

“Purpose of Reunion” somehow managed to sneak itself into the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival this year, even though it’s rather obviously aiming for a rather low-brow audience. Well, that’s fine by me. One of the nice things about more exploitative movies like this is that they tend not to be that pretentious about sex. The sex scenes in “Purpose of Reunion” are there primarily for titillation and comedy, and they succeed on both fronts. Yet at the same time the film steers into curious moral territory. We know Dong-chul is pretty indisputably a jerk lothario. His entire romance with Yu-jin (played by Kim Yoo-yeon) basically consists of Dong-chul coming up with thinly contrived excuses to hit on her, pretending like hot hot sex isn’t actually his long term goal when in fact it obviously is. At one point Yu-jin accuses him of harassment. To which Dong-chul responds, quite sensibly, that their relationship doesn’t actually have a power differential, so Yu-jin could stop this by just not responding to his phone calls. In this way “Purpose of Reunion” manages to bring up lots of interesting questions regarding agency.

On the literal level the movie is just wish fulfillment- wouldn’t it be nice if we could just have sex outside of marriage with no consequences? Obviously by the end of the movie Dong-chul finds out that it’s not so simple. What’s interesting is that the finale reveals that Dong-chul’s actions really were taking place in a vacuum. Essentially, Dong-chul is right. There aren’t any consequences for having sex outside of marriage except the ones that exist in your own imagination. And that’s the problem. Basically the entirity of human perception exists solely in our imaginations. Nobody can see what Dong-chul is doing but he can’t see what they’re doing either- and more importantly Dong-chul can’t know what they’re thinking. The implications of this become a lot more serious when Yu-jin finally ups and spells out the logistical problem with his worldview.

Filmwise, the result of all this is a surprisingly consistent frame of storytelling. Yes, the sex is really hot and seems to undercut any attempt at a moral message but that’s the entire point. Cheating seems fun because it’s done in isolation as part of a fantasy- that’s why it’s called cheating, because it’s breaking the rules. Whether the ending is strictly speaking a happy one is much harder to tell- in the end, while guys might wish they could be Dong-chul, when any degree of reality is applied to the situation, we’re mostly forced to admit that we don’t really.

In 2000, former celebrity manager Kim Seok Jin shot to notoriety after a sex video of him and his charge – Korean pop singer Baek ji Yeon sex tape video started circulating on the Internet.

He then fled to the US but made headlines again last month, this time for statutory rape charges.

Kim, 45, was arrested by the police in the Koreatown area in Los Angeles on suspicion of having sex with a minor aged below 18, reported Yonhap News Agency.

He is also known by the name Kim Si Won in Korea, although his real name is said to be Kim Seok Wan. He had been on the US most wanted list for two years.

A request for bail was put up but rejected by the US court last Tuesday, after US officials received an extradition request from the Korean government.

In his hometown, Kim Seok Jin is allegedly wanted by the Korean police for defamation charges related to the production and circulation of sex videos on the Internet, said The Chosun Ilbo.

The newspaper also quoted a Korean music industry executive who said ‘we have to wait and see if he (Kim) will be brought back home’. So far, Baek Ji Young has yet to comment on the news.
